Adobe stock hit by Citi downgrade over fiscal 2027 risks

- Citi sees downside risk to Adobe's fiscal 2027 growth outlook as leadership changes and competition intensify.
- The bank expects weaker recurring-revenue growth as Adobe shifts toward lower-priced AI and Firefly offerings.
- Adobe's next quarterly outlook will show whether the incoming CEO resets the Creative strategy.
Adobe stock faced a fresh analyst setback on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, after Citi downgraded the software company to Sell and cut its price target from 250 to 207 US dollars. Investing.com reported the move, citing Citi analysts, who warned of a rising risk of a "hard reset" as Adobe prepares for a leadership transition and faces pressure in its Creative business.
Adobe stock traded at 216.23 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 13:30 CET on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, 1.87 percent below the Xetra close of Tuesday, November 3. The quote followed a previous Lang & Schwarz close of 218.48 euros.
Leadership change raises execution risk
Incoming chief executive Anil Chakravarthy is scheduled to take over on December 1. Citi said the transition comes while key positions remain open, including the chief financial officer and the head of Digital Media. The bank expects Adobe to provide a weaker fiscal 2027 outlook when it reports fourth-quarter results in early December.
Citi said the new chief executive could make strategic changes to Creative that support a more sustainable base but weigh on near-term growth. The analysts expect Adobe to focus more on top-of-funnel user growth through artificial intelligence and Firefly instead of relying as heavily on price increases for the classic Creative Cloud suite.
Recurring revenue comes under pressure
The shift toward lower-priced offerings and monthly active users could weigh on annual recurring revenue in fiscal 2027 and 2028, according to Citi. The bank estimates that the user-growth strategy could reduce fiscal 2027 ARR growth by 200 basis points, while the fading effect of earlier Creative Cloud price increases could create an additional 50-basis-point pricing headwind.
Citi cut its net new ARR estimates for fiscal 2027 and 2028 by 470 million and 500 million US dollars, respectively, to 1.5 billion and 1.35 billion US dollars. It now sees total ARR growth of 5.3 percent and 4.5 percent, which it said is 200 to 300 basis points below current Street estimates. The bank also reduced its fiscal 2027 non-GAAP gross-margin forecast by 70 basis points because AI inference costs may not yet be fully monetized.
For investors, the downgrade shifts attention from Adobe's recent revenue growth to the quality and durability of recurring revenue. The next quarterly outlook will be important for assessing whether the company can broaden AI adoption without sacrificing pricing power in its core Creative franchise.
