- Systane PRO PF achieved non-inferiority against Miebo in a randomized study of patients with moderate-to-severe dry-eye symptoms.
- Alcon said the findings strengthen the evidence base for its dry-eye portfolio ahead of the company's scheduled results.
Alcon reported clinical results for SYSTANE PRO Preservative-Free on October 2, 2026, with the findings adding a new data point for its dry-eye business. Alliance News reported that the treatment delivered comparable symptom relief to Miebo, the brand name for perfluorohexyloctane ophthalmic solution, in a head-to-head study.
The prospective study included 256 patients with moderate-to-severe dry-eye symptoms. Participants were randomized to receive either Systane PRO PF or the comparator four times daily. The treatment met its non-inferiority endpoint at both two weeks and one month, according to Alcon.
Study adds support for Systane
The result does not establish superiority over Miebo, but it gives Alcon clinical evidence that its preservative-free product can provide comparable relief in a defined patient group. The study therefore supports the company's broader dry-eye portfolio as Alcon competes in a market where product efficacy and tolerability influence treatment choice.
Sarika Sood, Alcon's vice president of Global Medical Affairs and Health Economics and Outcomes Research, said the findings were backed by a rigorous, independently conducted randomized clinical study. She added that the results reinforced the company's comprehensive dry-eye portfolio, as reported by Alliance News.
Alcon stock traded at 64.51 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 9:38 a.m. CET on Monday, November 2, 2026. Investors are now looking to the company's scheduled results on November 10, when management can provide a broader update on demand, portfolio performance and the commercial contribution of recent eye-care initiatives.
For investors, the study is supportive but limited in scope: it addresses symptom relief in a 256-patient trial and does not by itself quantify revenue, market share or earnings effects. The next results will be more important for assessing whether clinical progress is translating into financial momentum.
European healthcare shares will also trade against the wider direction of the SMI market.
