- Third-quarter revenue rose 25 percent, but adjusted earnings missed analyst expectations.
- Google Cloud revenue more than doubled as Search growth slowed to 12 percent.
- Alphabet kept its 2026 capital spending outlook and expects a significant increase in 2027.
Alphabet reported third-quarter revenue of 127.58 billion US dollars on October 28, while adjusted earnings per share came in below the analyst consensus, according to CNBC. The results put the focus on whether the company can convert its fast-growing artificial intelligence infrastructure into sufficient cash returns.
Cloud growth offsets slower Search
Revenue increased 25 percent from a year earlier, but the 127.58 billion US dollar total fell short of the 128.22 billion US dollar estimate cited by CNBC. Adjusted earnings were 2.67 US dollars per share, below the 3.02 US dollar consensus. Net income declined to 26.17 billion US dollars from 34.98 billion US dollars a year earlier.
Google Cloud was the strongest operating area. Revenue more than doubled to 30.7 billion US dollars, beating the 28.7 billion US dollar estimate. Alphabet said demand came from AI infrastructure, AI solutions and core cloud services, while Cloud chief Thomas Kurian pointed to demand from AI laboratories, financial institutions and enterprises.
Google Search and other revenue rose 12 percent to 63.35 billion US dollars, below the 64.96 billion US dollar estimate. Chief Executive Sundar Pichai said AI investments had helped produce the highest query growth rate in five years. Alphabet also said its Gemini application had reached 1 billion users.
Spending weighs on cash generation
The main investor concern was cash generation. Free cash flow was negative 9.07 billion US dollars in the quarter, well below the 2.70 billion US dollar shortfall expected by analysts. Capital expenditure reached 51.36 billion US dollars, as Alphabet expanded data-center capacity, computing infrastructure and AI systems.
Alphabet maintained its 2026 capital spending forecast of 195 billion to 205 billion US dollars. Finance chief Anat Ashkenazi told analysts that spending is expected to increase significantly in 2027, with further details planned for the fourth-quarter earnings call. Long-term debt rose to 125.1 billion US dollars from 21.6 billion US dollars a year earlier.
