ASML Holding stock reflects stronger AI-driven demand as customers plan equipment purchases into 2030. Capacity expansion remains the key execution test.

AI demand meets capacity limits

  • ASML raised its 2026 sales outlook after record third-quarter revenue and profit.
  • Customer planning now reaches 2029 and 2030, while current production plans may not satisfy demand in 2027 and 2028.
  • The January results will provide the next major test of orders, capacity expansion and the 2027 outlook.

ASML Holding reported record third-quarter sales and raised its 2026 outlook on October 14. The Dutch semiconductor equipment maker said customers are extending demand forecasts as artificial intelligence investment supports spending on advanced chip production.

ASML Holding stock traded at 1,278.80 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 10:05 CET on Friday, November 6, 2.44 percent above the Xetra close of Thursday, November 5. The move places the stock above the prior session's 1,248.40-euro closing level, while investors continue to weigh demand visibility against the practical limits of expanding output.

Demand visibility reaches beyond 2028

In its October 14 results release, ASML reported third-quarter net sales of 11.662 billion euros, up from 9.326 billion euros in the second quarter. Net income reached 4.960 billion euros, compared with 2.918 billion euros in the preceding quarter, while gross margin rose to 57.5 percent from 54.0 percent.

Installed Base Management sales, which include services and field options, increased to 3.289 billion euros from 2.762 billion euros. ASML also sold 113 new lithography systems, compared with 86 in the second quarter. The figures show that installed equipment upgrades are contributing alongside new system shipments.

Chief Executive Christophe Fouquet said customers are raising short- and medium-term equipment forecasts based mainly on the expected size and duration of AI-related investment. Some customers are already interested in placing orders for 2029 and 2030, extending the visible demand horizon beyond ASML's currently planned production footprint.

Execution becomes the central question

ASML expects its current supply plans to fall short of customer demand in both 2027 and 2028. Management is therefore investigating ways to increase 2028 capacity beyond the previously communicated 30 percent expansion. That creates an opportunity for additional revenue, but also raises execution requirements across manufacturing, suppliers and skilled labor.

The company expects fourth-quarter 2026 net sales of 14.2 billion to 15.2 billion euros, with a gross margin around 57 percent. The full-year sales forecast stands at 44 billion to 45 billion euros, with a gross margin around 56 percent. The outlook is a financial benchmark for investors, but actual deliveries remain dependent on production capacity, customer schedules and export restrictions.

ASML's interim dividend of 1.88 euros per ordinary share was scheduled for payment on November 4. The company also said it purchased approximately 4.1 billion euros of shares under its 2026-2028 buyback program during the third quarter, adding capital returns to the investor discussion without changing the central capacity question.

For investors, the next test is whether longer-term AI equipment plans convert into firm orders and whether ASML can expand output without weakening margins. The next quarterly and full-year results are scheduled for January 27, 2027, when the company is expected to provide its first 2027 outlook.
