- aTyr Pharma reported publication of EFZO-FIT results in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine.
- The trial missed its primary steroid-reduction endpoint but showed benefits across several patient-reported outcomes.
- Efzofitimod maintained lung function and was generally well-tolerated in the study.
On Thursday, October 29, 2026, aTyr Pharma announced the publication of results from its Phase 3 EFZO-FIT study of efzofitimod in patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis. The peer-reviewed trial report appeared in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, according to the companyâs announcement.
Primary endpoint remains unresolved
EFZO-FIT enrolled 268 patients with moderate to severe pulmonary sarcoidosis. Participants received efzofitimod at 3.0 mg/kg or 5.0 mg/kg, or placebo, over 48 weeks, with a protocol-guided steroid taper during the first 12 weeks.
The study did not meet its primary endpoint, which measured the change from baseline in mean daily oral corticosteroid dose at week 48. aTyr said the treatment did not produce a statistically significant steroid reduction compared with placebo. That result leaves the central steroid-sparing claim unconfirmed in this trial.
Patient outcomes support continued study
The 5.0 mg/kg dose showed clinical benefit across several prespecified patient-reported outcomes compared with placebo. These included the Kingâs Sarcoidosis Questionnaire lung score, the Fatigue Assessment Scale, general health measures and complete steroid withdrawal accompanied by improvement in the lung score.
aTyr also said efzofitimod maintained lung function as measured by forced vital capacity and was generally well-tolerated, with a safety profile consistent with earlier trials. The company has initiated study-related activities for another global Phase 3 trial in pulmonary sarcoidosis.
Investor focus shifts to development execution
The publication adds peer-reviewed detail to a late-stage program with both supportive secondary findings and a missed primary endpoint. For investors, the next trialâs design, enrollment progress and ability to demonstrate a treatment-specific benefit will be central to the development outlook.
