Baker Hughes has completed the sale of its Waygate Technologies business to Hexagon for 1.45 billion US dollars, adding a new portfolio milestone after the company's strong third-quarter order intake. Simply Wall St reported the closing on Tuesday, November 3, while Baker Hughes has continued to emphasize power systems, LNG and industrial technology as strategic growth areas.
Divestment sharpens the portfolio
The transaction removes a non-core industrial inspection business from Baker Hughes' portfolio. According to Simply Wall St, the gross proceeds give management additional flexibility while it works through Chart integration costs and a higher debt load.
The sale also reinforces the shift toward LNG, power generation and Industrial & Energy Technology. That repositioning matters because the company is seeking to combine Baker Hughes equipment with Chart's cooling and industrial capabilities in markets linked to data centers and energy infrastructure.
Orders remain the operating test
In its third-quarter release dated October 27, Baker Hughes reported orders of 10.8 billion US dollars, including 5.9 billion US dollars in IET orders. Remaining performance obligations reached 46.4 billion US dollars, with IET accounting for a record 39.4 billion US dollars. The Baker Hughes results release said revenue rose 14 percent year over year to 8.025 billion US dollars, while GAAP net income attributable to Baker Hughes fell 33 percent to 411 million US dollars. Adjusted net income increased 2 percent to 695 million US dollars.
Baker Hughes stock traded at 48.20 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 16:13 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. The next investor focus is whether the Waygate proceeds, the Chart integration and the enlarged backlog improve financial flexibility without weakening execution.
