- Pharmaceuticals delivered the strongest operating contribution in the third quarter.
- Bayer lifted its full-year EBITDA and free cash flow outlooks.
- Negative free cash flow and litigation-related costs continue to weigh on the recovery.
Bayer raised its 2026 outlook on Tuesday, November 3, after third-quarter sales and adjusted operating earnings increased. The company said Pharmaceuticals was entering a new growth cycle, while cash generation remained under pressure.
According to Bayer's third-quarter release, group sales reached 10.053 billion euros, up 4.1 percent on a reported basis. EBITDA before special items rose 6.9 percent to 1.615 billion euros. Core earnings per share declined to 0.31 euros, while net income was negative 672 million euros.
Pharma leads the operating recovery
Pharmaceuticals generated sales of 4.680 billion euros, an 8.0 percent increase from the prior-year quarter. EBITDA before special items advanced 23.6 percent to 1.292 billion euros, supported by Nubeqa and Kerendia. Their currency- and portfolio-adjusted sales increased 58.3 percent and 64.9 percent respectively.
Bayer lifted its full-year Pharmaceuticals EBITDA margin guidance to 25 to 27 percent from 23 to 25 percent previously. Group EBITDA before special items is now expected at 9.8 to 10.3 billion euros, compared with the former range of 9.6 to 10.1 billion euros.
Cash flow remains the key constraint
Free cash flow guidance improved by 1.0 billion euros to a range of negative 1.5 billion to negative 0.5 billion euros. The revised forecast is still negative, showing that stronger operating performance has not yet removed the cash burden from legal payments and other costs. Year-end net financial debt is now expected at 28.0 to 29.0 billion euros.
