BioNTech SE returned to an IFRS net profit in the third quarter of 2026, while lower demand for COVID-19 vaccines pushed revenue below the prior-year level. The company reported the results on Tuesday, November 3, in an BioNTech press release.
BioNTech stock traded at 77.73 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 22:39 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. The company reported quarterly revenue of 1,289.2 million euros, down from 1,518.9 million euros a year earlier, as expected lower COVID-19 vaccine demand weighed on sales.
Profit returns as revenue declines
IFRS net profit reached 184.5 million euros, compared with a net loss of 28.7 million euros in the prior-year quarter. The comparison was helped by substantially lower other operating expenses than a year earlier, when legal-proceeding costs and other charges affected results. Adjusted net profit was 440.9 million euros, compared with 752.5 million euros in the third quarter of 2025.
Research and development spending rose to 748.1 million euros from 564.8 million euros as BioNTech advanced late-stage immuno-oncology and antibody-drug conjugate programs. Adjusted R&D expenses increased to 578.5 million euros from 479.4 million euros.
Guidance points to stronger finish
BioNTech raised its full-year 2026 revenue range to 1.7 billion to 1.9 billion euros from the previous range of 1.6 billion to 1.9 billion euros, lifting the midpoint. Guidance for adjusted R&D expenses of 2.0 billion to 2.3 billion euros and adjusted selling, general and administrative expenses of 700 million to 800 million euros was unchanged.
The company ended September with 16.2 billion euros in cash, cash equivalents and security investments. Its oncology update included progress for pumitamig combinations, gotistobart in squamous non-small cell lung cancer and several antibody-drug conjugate programs. BioNTech said it expects to report fourth-quarter and full-year 2026 results on March 2, 2027.
