BlueScope lifted its first-half fiscal 2027 underlying EBIT outlook on Monday, October 26, as stronger US steel spreads, higher volumes and improved operating performance supported its main North American and Australian businesses. The company said the revised outlook points to underlying EBIT approaching AUD 1.1 billion, above its previous guidance range of AUD 860 million to AUD 960 million. The details were published by BlueScope.

North Star is the main driver of the upgrade. BlueScope said stronger benchmark steel spreads and additional despatch volumes following a debottlenecking project should lift the North America region by about two-thirds compared with the second half of fiscal 2026. The company now assumes US mini-mill benchmark spreads of about US$810 per tonne, versus US$750 per tonne in its earlier guidance.

North America leads the upgrade

Buildings and Coated Products North America is expected to deliver earnings about 50 percent higher than in the second half of fiscal 2026. Higher volumes and realised prices at Steelscape, together with improved margins at Buildings North America, are supporting the stronger view.

Australian Steel Products is expected to deliver earnings approaching double its second-half fiscal 2026 result. Resilient domestic demand, stronger despatch volumes and realised spreads are expected to offset slightly softer benchmark-spread assumptions. Earnings from the remaining businesses are broadly in line with the August update.

AGM is the next checkpoint

BlueScope will hold its annual general meeting on November 16, 2026, in Wollongong and online. Management said the meeting will provide further detail on operating conditions, giving investors a near-term checkpoint for steel spreads, demand and realised prices.

The Australian market backdrop can be followed through the S&P/ASX 200.
