- Direct RLUSD minting and redemption through BNY remain subject to final approvals.
BNY Mellon stock is tied to an expanded digital-assets collaboration after Ripple and BNY announced new institutional custody capabilities on October 27, 2026. The announcement was published by BNY's newsroom.
Custody expansion targets institutions
BNY now supports XRP, the native asset of the XRP Ledger, and Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin on its Digital Asset Custody platform. Eligible institutional clients can safeguard, hold and transfer the assets within BNY's governance, controls and servicing framework.
The move builds on BNY's existing role as the primary reserve custodian for RLUSD and its custody relationship with Ripple Prime. BNY said the expanded relationship is intended to connect digital assets with established payments, collateral and securities infrastructure.
BNY also intends to broaden support for tokenized assets and investment products issued on the XRP Ledger. The bank is working with Ripple on a plan that would allow clients to mint and redeem RLUSD directly through BNY, although the release makes clear that future product plans remain subject to final BNY and regulatory approvals.
Trade finance remains exploratory
Ripple and BNY are exploring tokenized trade finance on the XRP Ledger, subject to client requirements. Their first step involves C2FO, a working-capital platform, and focuses on representing approved receivables digitally to broaden investor access to supply-chain finance.
BNY Chief Innovation and Market Transformation Officer Carolyn Weinberg said the collaboration aims to connect payments, liquidity, collateral and securities through traditional systems and blockchain technology. Ripple President Monica Long described the goal as moving beyond asset issuance toward practical use in payments, collateral, capital markets and trade finance.
The release said RLUSD had reached approximately 2.5 billion US dollars in market capitalization. It also said the XRP Ledger had processed more than 4.6 billion transactions since launch, with settlement in approximately three to five seconds. These figures describe the digital-asset infrastructure cited by the partners, not disclosed revenue or custody balances for BNY.
What investors should watch next
For investors, the announcement expands BNY's potential role in institutional digital-asset servicing but does not disclose client volumes, custody revenue or a timetable for a material earnings contribution. The investment case therefore depends on whether planned capabilities develop into recurring custody, settlement and collateral activity.
