BNY Mellon stock: Ripple expands XRP and RLUSD custody tie-up

BNY and Ripple expanded their strategic collaboration on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, adding XRP and RLUSD to BNY's Digital Asset Custody platform. The announcement broadens the bank's role in institutional digital assets beyond its existing position as primary reserve custodian for RLUSD and its custody relationship with Ripple Prime.

According to the BNY newsroom, eligible institutional clients can safekeep, hold and transfer XRP and RLUSD through the bank's custody platform. BNY said the service is designed to place digital assets within its existing governance, controls and servicing framework.

From Custody To Market Infrastructure

The companies also intend to broaden support for tokenized assets and investment products issued on the XRP Ledger. They are working toward enabling BNY clients to mint and redeem RLUSD directly through BNY, while the announcement said those future plans remain subject to final BNY and regulatory approvals.

A separate initiative with C2FO is aimed at tokenized trade finance. The companies are exploring a supply-chain-finance model that would represent existing trade-finance assets, such as receivables, on the XRP Ledger. C2FO provides working-capital services, and the proposed structure is intended to broaden investor access while simplifying the management and distribution of those assets.

Ripple said RLUSD had reached approximately 2.5 billion US dollars in market capitalization. The XRP Ledger had processed more than 4.6 billion transactions since launch, with settlement in approximately three to five seconds, according to the announcement. These figures describe the wider platform context rather than disclosed BNY custody balances or transaction volumes.
