- The forecast also points to demand for widebody aircraft, freighters and aviation services.
Boeing's China Commercial Market Outlook, presented in Beijing on Tuesday, November 3, adds a detailed delivery mix to the company's long-term demand case. The forecast covers the 20 years through 2045 and points to a commercial fleet of more than 9,800 aircraft.
According to the Boeing Media Room, Chinese airlines could require 9,240 new aircraft over the period. The company expects passenger traffic to grow 5% annually, supported by a larger middle class, more visa-free travel and continued investment in aviation infrastructure.
What The Delivery Mix Means
The breakdown gives investors more detail on where the projected demand could arise. Boeing lists 7,215 single-aisle aircraft, representing 78% of the total, alongside 1,460 widebody aircraft, 405 regional aircraft and 160 freighters.
Single-aisle aircraft would support domestic and Asia-Pacific routes, while widebody demand would reflect long-haul traffic linking China with Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East. Boeing also expects 42% of the projected deliveries to replace older aircraft rather than expand the fleet.
The outlook extends beyond aircraft sales. Boeing says airlines in China could invest 875 billion US dollars in digital services, maintenance and personnel training over the next two decades. The company also forecasts demand for 425,000 pilots, technicians and cabin crew.
Long-Term Demand Meets Execution Risk
The forecast strengthens the long-cycle demand backdrop for Boeing's commercial aircraft and services operations, but it is not an order commitment from airlines. Financing, regulation, production capacity and Boeing's execution on aircraft programs will determine how much of the potential demand becomes revenue.
