- Booking delivered strong third-quarter operating growth, but management expects a slower final quarter.
- Artificial intelligence is beginning to improve conversion and booking values inside Booking's own platforms.
- International travel moderation and geopolitical disruptions remain key risks for the near-term outlook.
Booking Holdings reported strong third-quarter operating trends, while its fourth-quarter outlook points to slower growth. A new analysis by CNBC highlights artificial intelligence as an emerging commercial opportunity rather than only a competitive threat.
For the quarter ended September 30, room nights increased 7 percent and gross bookings rose 10 percent to 54.5 billion US dollars. Adjusted earnings per share advanced 17 percent to 4.66 US dollars, ahead of the 4.49 US dollar consensus cited by CNBC.
AI shows early commercial traction
Management said users of Priceline's Penny and Agoda's AI assistants converted at approximately twice the rate of non-users. Agoda users of its assistant also generated average booking values roughly 20 percent higher, while daily visitors using Booking.com's AI trip search rose tenfold from the second quarter.
These indicators suggest that AI can strengthen Booking's existing marketplace by improving conversion and transaction value. The company has not quantified the resulting earnings contribution, and referrals from external AI platforms still represent less than 1 percent of Booking.com's room nights.
Fourth-quarter growth is slowing
Management expects fourth-quarter room-night growth of 1 to 3 percent, gross-bookings growth of 2 to 4 percent and adjusted-revenue growth of 0 to 2 percent. Adjusted EBITDA is expected to remain roughly flat year over year. The full-year outlook remains high-single-digit growth for gross bookings, adjusted revenue and adjusted EBITDA, with adjusted earnings per share growth in the low- to mid-teens.

International demand softened late in the quarter, while disruptions linked to the Middle East, elevated airfares and localized unrest in parts of Europe add uncertainty to the near-term travel environment.
