- Third-quarter sales rose 1.5 percent, while adjusted earnings per share fell to 0.73 US dollars.
- Management expects fourth-quarter sales to decline and full-year adjusted earnings to reach 3.16 to 3.18 US dollars per share.
- New device clearances, a clinical trial and a Heartflow collaboration support the longer-term product pipeline.
Boston Scientific lowered its near-term growth outlook after third-quarter sales increased only 1.5 percent from a year earlier. In its October 28 release, the medical technology company said revenue reached 5.138 billion US dollars in the three months ended September 30, 2026.
GAAP net income attributable to common shareholders fell to 582 million US dollars, or 0.40 US dollars per share, from 755 million US dollars, or 0.51 US dollars, a year earlier. Adjusted earnings per share declined to 0.73 US dollars from 0.75 US dollars. The company said the year had been challenging, while Chief Executive Mike Mahoney pointed to the response to a cybersecurity incident and the longer-term innovation pipeline.
Growth Slowed Across Key Areas
Boston Scientific reported 0.7 percent organic growth in MedSurg and 1.9 percent organic growth in Cardiovascular. Within MedSurg, neuromodulation sales increased 13.0 percent on an operational and organic basis, but endoscopy sales declined 0.6 percent and urology sales fell 3.1 percent on the same basis.
Regional performance was mixed. Operational sales increased 6.1 percent in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and 10.5 percent in Latin America and Canada, while Asia-Pacific declined 1.1 percent. U.S. operational sales rose 0.5 percent.
Fourth-Quarter Guidance Turns Negative
Management expects fourth-quarter reported and organic sales to decline between 1.0 percent and 3.0 percent from the prior-year period. Adjusted earnings per share are forecast at 0.77 to 0.79 US dollars. For the full year, the company now expects reported sales growth of approximately 4.25 percent, organic growth of approximately 3.75 percent and adjusted earnings per share of 3.16 to 3.18 US dollars.
The outlook puts execution and demand trends ahead of the November 11 investor conference on the market agenda. Boston Scientific is scheduled to participate in Stifel's 2026 Healthcare Conference, where senior executives are expected to discuss the business and its product strategy.
Pipeline Offers Longer-Term Support
The company started enrollment in the Elite AF trial for the next-generation WATCHMAN Elite device. It also received United States Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for technologies in its StoneSmart kidney-stone treatment ecosystem and for an expanded size range of the SEISMIQ peripheral lithotripsy catheter.
Boston Scientific also entered a strategic collaboration with Heartflow to advance artificial-intelligence-supported planning for coronary interventions. These initiatives provide a counterweight to the weaker near-term sales outlook, but the reduced guidance leaves the stock more sensitive to execution, product adoption and the recovery of disrupted operations.
