Citigroup is seeking a senior vice president to head its banking unit in India's GIFT City, according to a Bloomberg report published by Moneycontrol on Friday, November 6, 2026. The report said the bank's October 22 job posting sought a senior executive for the expanding financial hub.

India hub raises leadership demand

GIFT City is attracting global and Indian lenders building businesses in corporate lending, foreign-currency financing, treasury services and products for wealthy Indians overseas. The expansion is increasing demand for executives familiar with offshore markets and India's regulatory framework.

Citigroup's branch is currently headed by Shajin Chandran, who joined the bank in 2023 and serves as a vice president, according to the report. Citigroup declined to comment on the hiring search.

Assets held by banks in GIFT City reached 193 billion US dollars at the end of September, compared with 120.69 billion US dollars in June, according to figures cited in the report from the International Financial Services Centres Authority. Citigroup's India CEO K. Balasubramanian previously said the bank's assets in the hub could reach 3 billion US dollars by the end of 2026, up from 350 million US dollars last December.
