Crédit Agricole reported strong third-quarter results on Friday, October 30, 2026, as revenue growth and corporate and investment banking activity supported the French lender. The company said revenue increased 7.5 percent year on year, with positive jaws of 5.1 percentage points and a 14.2 percent return on tangible equity.
Crédit Agricole's official results release said asset gathering and corporate and investment banking performed strongly. Loan production remained robust in Italy, while French mortgage lending slowed and conditions in automotive-related mobility activities stayed unfavorable.
Profitability meets rising provisions
Reuters reported an 11 percent like-for-like increase in third-quarter net profit. The news agency also said investment banking revenue rose 10 percent to 1.75 billion euros and French retail banking revenue increased 17 percent to a record 1.15 billion euros.
Credit risk remained a point for investors to watch. Crédit Agricole reported cost of risk at 39 basis points of outstandings for the bank, while the wider group reported 31 basis points. The bank's CET1 ratio stood at 11.2 percent, and the group held liquidity reserves of 491 billion euros, according to the company's release.
Management also highlighted a strategic push beyond France. Crédit Agricole has launched CA Deutschland, continues to develop its European digital savings platform CA Savings and plans to acquire IKB Deutsche Industriebank, a lender focused on Germany's Mittelstand. The company said completion of the IKB transaction is expected by the end of the second quarter of 2027, subject to customary approvals.
Germany becomes a growth pillar
Chief Executive Officer Olivier Gavalda said the group was accelerating European expansion through CA Deutschland and the planned IKB acquisition. He also pointed to the launch of Crédit Agricole's artificial-intelligence company and partnerships with Mistral and Prisme.ai as part of the ACT 2028 strategy. Reuters reported that Gavalda expects French loan demand to decline as investment and projects slow.
