Deere & Company announced on Friday, October 30, that it plans to hire more than 400 people across its factories and recall more than 275 employees at its Waterloo, Iowa, operations. The company said the move will help it meet customer needs across changing operating conditions, including future labor negotiations.

The company said the latest recalls would bring total callbacks since 2024 to approximately 1,000. Employees previously on layoff in Waterloo, the Quad Cities, Ottumwa and Dubuque have been asked to return, while approximately 125 workers remain on layoff in the Des Moines area.

Production capacity meets labor risk

John Deere listed hiring at Harvester Works in East Moline, the Seeding and Cylinder operations in Moline, the North American Parts Distribution Center in Milan, and facilities in Davenport, Dubuque, Ottumwa and Coffeyville. The company said the additional workforce should position it to serve customers through a range of operating environments. These details come from John Deere.

The hiring and recalls may improve production flexibility, but they also put future labor costs and negotiations more clearly on the investor agenda. Deere's agricultural market remains exposed to high interest rates and elevated costs, making demand and margin conditions important for the next results update.
