Quarterly results lift earnings floor
For the quarter ended September 30, Duke Energy reported adjusted and reported earnings per share of 1.99 US dollars, compared with 1.81 US dollars a year earlier. Revenue rose to 9.104 billion US dollars from 8.542 billion US dollars.
The utility narrowed its 2026 adjusted earnings-per-share guidance to 6.70 to 6.80 US dollars from 6.55 to 6.80 US dollars. Management said performance through the first three quarters positions the company near the upper end of the revised range and reaffirmed adjusted earnings-per-share growth of 5% to 7% through 2030.
Investment remains the key driver
Infrastructure investment recovery, higher sales volumes and favorable summer weather supported the quarter. Higher depreciation, interest expense, minority-interest effects and a higher effective tax rate partly offset the gains.
Electric Utilities and Infrastructure generated segment income of 1.817 billion US dollars, up from 1.658 billion US dollars a year earlier. Gas Utilities and Infrastructure reported a 19 million US dollar loss, an improvement from a 26 million US dollar loss.
Duke Energy is executing a generation expansion designed to add 16 gigawatts of capacity by 2031. The investment program supports demand growth but also leaves depreciation, financing costs and execution important for future earnings.
