Foxconn is targeting a much larger role in the global AI-server supply chain as demand from cloud providers and AI developers remains strong. In an interview published by CNBC on Friday, October 30, Chairman Young Liu said Hon Hai could raise its share of the global AI-server market to 50% within a couple of years, from around 40% currently.

Liu also said the company's production capacity was fully booked for at least the next year and a half. He expects AI infrastructure to account for 60% to 65% of Foxconn's revenue within three to five years, excluding edge-AI devices. The comments underline how quickly servers, racks and data-center equipment are moving toward the center of the group's growth strategy.

US expansion adds execution risk

Foxconn plans to move further upstream in the US supply chain and expand its manufacturing footprint. Liu said the company would initially focus on higher-margin products such as AI server racks and data-center equipment because US production costs are higher. Greater scale could eventually help reduce those costs, according to the interview.

The strategy gives Hon Hai a path to capture more of the economics around AI infrastructure rather than remaining focused primarily on assembly. It also raises execution demands: the company must add capacity, manage supply-chain complexity and protect margins while customers continue to increase AI spending.

Liu cautioned that investment discipline remains essential. Foxconn has planned annual AI spending of 3 billion to 5 billion US dollars, but that amount could rise if the company expands its vertical integration. He also warned that overinvestment could damage the business, while saying weakness at one customer could be offset by growth elsewhere. An industry-wide slowdown would pose a larger risk.

What investors should watch next

The outlook supports the case for continued revenue momentum in cloud and networking products, but the share's longer-term performance will depend on profitability as well as volume. Investors will therefore focus on evidence that new AI capacity produces attractive returns and that US expansion does not dilute margins.
