IAG (ES0177542018) launched a EUR 500 million share buyback on October 5, 2026, while the stock trades at EUR 4.84 at Lang & Schwarz on October 26, 2026 at 9:46 a.m. CET, 2.39 percent above the Xetra close of October 23, 2026 at EUR 4.73. The buyback announcement was reported by MarketScreener.
Fuel savings span 600 aircraft
The latest operating initiative targets one of the group's largest cost lines. On September 29, 2026, IAG selected OpenAirlines' SkyBreathe platform for Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, LEVEL and Vueling, supporting more than 600 aircraft, according to OpenAirlines. Four airlines already use the platform, while British Airways is expected to complete its rollout in the coming months.
The common system is intended to standardize data on flight plans, weather and aircraft performance. That gives management a clearer way to compare fuel-saving measures across the group, although the release does not quantify a future IAG saving.
What does the buyback change?
The EUR 500 million program adds a direct cash-return element to the efficiency story. IAG's investor page shows fiscal year 2025 revenue of EUR 33.2 billion, operating profit of EUR 5.0 billion and an operating margin of 15.10 percent, with the figures linked to the company's investor-relations page at IAG. Free cash flow was EUR 3.1 billion in the same fiscal year.
Next results date is November 6
IAG's investor calendar lists November 6, 2026, for the third-quarter 2026 results. That date gives investors the next scheduled test of demand, fuel costs and the group's full-year operating-margin target.
