- First-half net profit rose 16 percent to 580.5 billion Japanese yen, while adjusted core profit increased 33 percent.
- Itochu kept its full-year net profit and core profit targets unchanged despite expected second-half pressure in energy and chemicals.
- Non-resource operations and several industrial businesses provided a broader earnings base.
Itochu reported a record first half for the six months ended September 30, 2026, while retaining its full-year targets. AD HOC NEWS reported that net profit rose 16 percent to 580.5 billion Japanese yen and adjusted core profit advanced 33 percent to 504.5 billion yen.
Profit growth broadens across businesses
The earnings increase extended beyond a single transaction or division. Core profit from non-resource activities rose 30 percent to 427 billion yen, while resource-related core profit increased 52 percent to 77.5 billion yen.
Machinery, metals and minerals, energy and chemicals contributed to the result. Higher earnings from North American power operations, improved coal performance and firmer chemical prices supported the first-half performance. The sale of an overseas energy business also added a special contribution to reported net profit, making the adjusted core-profit measure important for assessing recurring momentum.
Annual targets remain unchanged
Management continues to target net profit of 950 billion yen and core profit of 900 billion yen for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027. The first half represented 61 percent of the net profit target and 56 percent of the core profit target.
Itochu expects earnings from energy and chemicals to weaken in the second half as disruptions in chemical raw-material supply ease. For investors, the next test is whether industrial businesses, non-resource operations and investment contributions can offset that expected pressure. The company also indicated annual shareholder returns of at least 604 billion yen, including dividends and share buybacks.
