- Astra kept nine-month underlying net income broadly flat as automotive and financial-services earnings advanced.
- Mining and heavy-equipment profits fell amid lower coal quotas and earlier gold mine shutdowns.
- Capital allocation remained active through share buybacks and a voluntary tender offer.
Astra's first-nine-month update puts the operating mix around Jardine Cycle & Carriage in focus. The Indonesian group reported resilient results as automotive and financial-services gains offset weaker mining and heavy-equipment operations. The figures were reported on Thursday, October 29, 2026, by The Globe and Mail in syndicated TipRanks content.
Operating mix remains uneven
Astra's net income excluding non-recurring items was broadly flat at Rp24.6 trillion, while net revenue held at Rp243.9 trillion. Automotive earnings rose 8% on higher vehicle and component sales, and financial-services income increased 6% as receivables expanded.
Mining solutions and heavy-equipment profits declined 28%. Lower coal quotas and earlier gold-mine shutdowns weighed on the division, although a recovery in the third quarter partly offset the pressure.
Reported profit reflects special items
Reported net income fell 12% to Rp21.6 trillion after Rp3.0 trillion of impairments and fair-value losses. Shareholders' funds and net asset value per share nevertheless increased, pointing to a stronger balance sheet in the period covered.
Capital management stays active
Astra had completed Rp10 trillion of share buybacks and launched new programs at United Tractors and Astra Agro Lestari. The group also pursued a voluntary tender offer for Astra Otoparts, keeping efficiency and selective growth at the center of its capital-allocation plans.
The report listed the latest analyst rating on Jardine Cycle & Carriage stock as Buy with a S$35.50 target. That assessment is separate from Astra's operating update and does not establish a direct market reaction.
