Company development

On October 9, the European Commission granted strategic-project status to two KGHM investments: development of the Retków-Grodziszcze deposit and the transformation of the Legnica copper smelter into an integrated recycling facility, according to an issuer-authored KGHM release distributed by Strefa Inwestorów.

The two investments have a combined value of more than PLN 9.5 billion. KGHM said the Retków-Grodziszcze project is intended to enable extraction of more than 100 million tonnes of polymetallic ore containing nearly 1.5 million tonnes of copper and more than 5,000 tonnes of silver by 2055. The Legnica project is designed for annual output of about 135,000 tonnes of electrolytic copper and 250 tonnes of nickel.
