Kinder Morgan entered dividend week after reporting record third-quarter results and approving a higher cash distribution. In its October 21, 2026 earnings release, the Houston-based energy infrastructure company said the board approved a dividend of $0.2975 per share, payable on November 16 to holders of record at the close of business on November 2. The payment is 2% above the third-quarter 2025 distribution, according to Kinder Morgan's earnings release.

Results strengthen cash-return case

Net income attributable to Kinder Morgan rose to $764 million in the three months ended September 30, 2026, from $628 million a year earlier. Adjusted net income increased 22% to $792 million, while adjusted EBITDA advanced 9% to $2.18 billion.

Basic and diluted earnings per share reached $0.34, compared with $0.28 in the prior-year quarter. Adjusted EPS came in at $0.35, up 21% from $0.29. The company said operating performance benefited from stronger contributions in natural gas pipelines, terminals and the CO2 segment, while certain items included legal, environmental and other accruals.

Gas projects drive longer-term growth

Kinder Morgan said its expansion project backlog increased by $4.7 billion from the second quarter to $14.4 billion at the end of the third quarter. Natural gas projects accounted for $13.2 billion, the largest natural gas backlog in the company's history. More than 75% of the total backlog is tied to projects supporting power generation and local distribution company demand.

Two major projects are central to the pipeline expansion. The Southeast Connector is designed to transport up to 2.6 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, with Kinder Morgan's share of the cost expected at $3.1 billion. Permian Link is designed to provide about 2.8 billion cubic feet per day of capacity, with Kinder Morgan's share of the project cost expected at $1.6 billion. Both projects are expected to enter service in phases beginning in 2030, subject to permits and approvals.

Guidance points above budget

For 2026, management budgeted net income attributable to Kinder Morgan of $3.1 billion, adjusted EPS of $1.36 and adjusted EBITDA of $8.6 billion. The company now expects adjusted EBITDA to exceed budget by more than 6% and adjusted EPS to exceed budget by more than 13%. It also expects year-end net debt to adjusted EBITDA of 3.6 times, better than its budget of 3.8 times.

Management said the business generated $5 billion of operating cash flow during the year and $230 million of free cash flow after capital expenditures and dividends. That balance between expansion spending, leverage and distributions remains central to the investment case, particularly as projects move from backlog to construction.
