Lanxess stock gains as quarterly sales rise and outlook tightens

- LANXESS lifted sales and adjusted earnings despite weak demand in several core markets.
- Cost savings and pricing supported profitability, while energy and logistics costs remained a burden.
- Management expects positive free cash flow in the fourth quarter and points to continued market uncertainty.
LANXESS reported stronger sales and earnings for the third quarter on Thursday, November 5, 2026. In a LANXESS release, the Cologne-based specialty chemicals group said sales increased 9.6 percent year over year to EUR 1.467 billion. EBITDA pre exceptionals rose 11.2 percent to EUR 139 million, lifting the margin to 9.5 percent from 9.3 percent.
LANXESS stock traded at 13.37 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 11:46 CET on Friday, November 6, 2026, 3.16 percent above the Xetra close of Thursday, November 5. The move followed the quarterly update, although the company did not describe the share-price development as a direct consequence of the figures.
Pricing and savings support earnings
Higher selling prices were the main driver of the sales increase as LANXESS passed on higher raw material and energy costs. Improved demand in selected business lines and cost-cutting measures also supported earnings. Management nevertheless said that many core markets have not yet returned to a broad and sustained recovery, particularly agrochemicals, automotive and construction.
Free cash flow improved from a negative EUR 14 million in the year-earlier quarter to positive EUR 48 million. LANXESS expects free cash flow to remain positive in the fourth quarter, making cash generation an important focus as the group manages a difficult industrial environment.
Segment performance remains uneven
Consumer Protection increased sales 8.4 percent to EUR 491 million, but EBITDA pre exceptionals fell 6.9 percent to EUR 67 million. The prior-year comparison was affected by a positive income effect from a customer contract containing a minimum purchase requirement.
Specialty Additives was the strongest earnings contributor. Sales rose 12.7 percent to EUR 569 million, while EBITDA pre exceptionals jumped 57.8 percent to EUR 71 million. Price increases and cost reductions improved the segment margin, with higher selling prices helping offset raw material inflation.
Advanced Intermediates increased sales 7.2 percent to EUR 404 million, but EBITDA pre exceptionals slipped to EUR 25 million from EUR 26 million. Higher prices offset raw material costs, while high energy costs, weak construction and agricultural demand, and low water levels on the Rhine weighed on profitability.
Upper end of guidance now targeted
For 2026, LANXESS now expects EBITDA pre exceptionals at the upper end of its EUR 450 million to EUR 500 million range. The outlook remains conditional on a weak economic backdrop, seasonal fourth-quarter effects and continued cost pressure. For investors, the combination of better pricing, stronger cash flow and cost savings is supportive, but the uneven segment performance shows that the recovery is not broad-based.
