- Statutory profit after tax rose strongly in the first nine months of 2026.
- Management kept its full-year financial targets unchanged and remains on track to meet them.
- Improving income and operating leverage support the bank's return outlook, while lending and deposit competition remain relevant factors.
Lloyds Banking Group reported stronger financial performance for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, and reiterated its full-year targets. The results were published on Thursday, October 29, according to the Lloyds Banking Group investor release.
Profit growth strengthens the outlook
Statutory profit before tax reached GBP 6.625 billion in the first nine months, up 42 percent from the comparable period of 2025. Profit after tax rose 46 percent to GBP 4.835 billion, while earnings per share increased to 7.6 pence from 4.8 pence.
Net income climbed 9 percent to GBP 14.819 billion. The bank attributed the improvement to higher total income and a lower remediation charge, partly offset by higher operating lease depreciation and impairment.
Targets remain unchanged for 2026
Lloyds continues to expect underlying net interest income above GBP 14.9 billion, a cost-to-income ratio below 50 percent and operating costs below GBP 9.9 billion. It also maintained its expectations for an asset quality ratio of about 25 basis points, return on tangible equity above 16 percent and capital generation above 200 basis points.
Return on tangible equity stood at 17.9 percent for the first nine months. The banking net interest margin reached 3.21 percent, 17 basis points above the prior-year period, supporting the income trend despite ongoing competition in mortgage and deposit markets.
Execution becomes the next test
The unchanged targets leave delivery against the full-year framework as the central investor focus. Stronger income, disciplined costs and stable credit performance provide support, but the bank's future earnings path will also depend on funding competition, interest-rate conditions and volume growth.
