Quarterly growth supports Mastercard outlook

  • Payment-network activity and value-added services both expanded, with faster growth in the services business.
  • Cross-border spending remained resilient despite pressure from intra-European comparisons and external uncertainties.
  • Management expects currency-neutral revenue growth to remain at the high end of its low-double-digit range.

Mastercard reported third-quarter results on Thursday, October 29, 2026, with revenue and adjusted earnings ahead of analyst expectations. The company said net revenue reached USD 9.81 billion, while adjusted diluted earnings per share came to USD 5.31. The figures were reported by Yahoo Finance; Mastercard confirmed the release and conference call through its investor relations announcement.

Payment activity remains broad

Management said third-quarter revenue increased 14 percent year over year on both a reported and currency-neutral basis. Net income rose 18 percent on a non-GAAP, currency-neutral basis, while adjusted earnings per share increased 21 percent. Mastercard attributed the performance to continued expansion in its payment network and demand for value-added services and solutions.

Worldwide gross dollar volume increased 7 percent on a local-currency basis to USD 3.0 trillion. Cross-border volume rose 11 percent, and switched transactions grew 9 percent. Payment-network revenue increased 11 percent, while value-added services and solutions revenue advanced 19 percent. Contactless payments accounted for 81 percent of in-person switched purchase transactions, according to the earnings call transcript.

The company also highlighted resilience in consumer and commercial spending. Cross-border activity remained strong overall, although Mastercard said lower-yielding intra-European volumes were affected by a new customs fee, promotional timing and a comparison with elevated cryptocurrency spending in the prior year. Management described the underlying business as healthy while acknowledging geopolitical uncertainty and foreign-exchange volatility.

Guidance stays at the upper end

Mastercard maintained its expectation for full-year 2026 currency-neutral net revenue growth at the high end of the low-double-digit range, excluding inorganic activity. The same growth range is expected for the fourth quarter. Foreign exchange is expected to weigh on fourth-quarter revenue, while operating expenses are also forecast to grow at the high end of the low-double-digit range.

The earnings call also underscored the strategic role of services, security products, agentic commerce and digital-asset infrastructure. Mastercard said its BVNK acquisition is supporting products that connect stablecoins with conventional payment and money-movement services. These initiatives broaden the group’s growth opportunities, but they also require continued investment in technology and customer acquisition.
