- Preliminary third-quarter profit exceeded the analyst consensus.
- Munich Re linked the performance to strong operations, below-average major losses and a strong reinsurance investment result.
- Final third-quarter figures are scheduled for November 12, 2026.
Munich Re raised its 2026 net profit guidance on October 23 after preliminary third-quarter earnings exceeded expectations. The reinsurer now targets net profit of EUR 6.6 billion, up from EUR 6.3 billion previously, following net profit of EUR 5.7 billion in the first nine months.
The company reported preliminary third-quarter net profit of EUR 1.7 billion, compared with the EUR 1.479 billion mean consensus from 13 analysts. Munich Re said the result reflected strong operating performance across all business segments, major losses in property and casualty reinsurance below average expectations, and a strong investment result in reinsurance.
Higher target, pending final figures
The guidance increase came with a qualification. Munich Re said its balance sheet could be strengthened further in the fourth quarter, subject to the development of major losses during the remainder of the year. That leaves catastrophe claims and the investment result as important variables for the final quarter and the achievability of the new target.
The preliminary figures are not yet the final quarterly accounts. Munich Re plans to publish its complete third-quarter results on November 12, 2026. Investors will then receive more detail on the individual business segments, capital position and the underlying quality of earnings.
The Munich Re announcement said the company intended to continue strengthening its balance sheet where appropriate in the fourth quarter. For shareholders, the combination of a higher earnings target and the scheduled final report creates a near-term focus on whether the preliminary performance is confirmed and how much capital remains available after claims and market developments.
The real-time quote of Munich Re stock was EUR 564.30 at Lang & Schwarz on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 09:36 Berlin time, 1.42 percent above the Xetra close of Thursday, October 29. The move shows the current market level but does not by itself establish a causal reaction to the guidance update.
