OMV stock is in focus after a strong quarter led by Energy and Fuels. Management also raised several 2026 operating assumptions while Chemicals weakened.

Strong quarter lifts 2026 outlook

  • OMV's Energy and Fuels divisions drove a sharp improvement in third-quarter profitability.
  • The group raised its Brent, gas-price, refining-margin and organic investment assumptions for 2026.
  • Chemicals earnings declined as weaker market prices offset stronger base-chemicals performance.

OMV reported a much stronger third quarter on October 29, with higher oil and gas prices and a sharp rise in refining margins lifting the integrated energy group's clean CCS operating result. The company also raised several assumptions for 2026, giving investors a more constructive operating framework while highlighting continued weakness in Chemicals.

OMV's clean CCS Operating Result reached EUR 2,117 million in the third quarter, up 68 percent from the same period a year earlier. Clean CCS net income attributable to stockholders of the parent rose to EUR 1,153 million, while clean CCS earnings per share reached EUR 3.54. Sales revenues from continuing operations increased 43 percent to EUR 8,959 million.

The company said operating cash flow climbed to EUR 2,199 million. Cash flow excluding net working capital effects rose 57 percent to EUR 2,334 million. Net debt stood at EUR 4,403 million at the end of the quarter, with a leverage ratio of 17 percent.

Energy and Fuels lead performance

Energy generated a clean Operating Result of EUR 936 million, an increase of 51 percent year on year. OMV attributed the advance mainly to positive market effects from higher realized gas and oil prices, which more than offset lower sales volumes caused in part by logistical constraints and missing liftings in the Middle East.

Fuels delivered the largest contribution. Its clean CCS Operating Result rose to EUR 1,124 million from EUR 413 million a year earlier, supported by higher refining margins, strong utilization and a favorable product mix. OMV's European refining indicator margin more than tripled to USD 37.50 per barrel, while European refinery utilization reached 92 percent.

Chemicals moved in the opposite direction. The segment's clean Operating Result fell to EUR 63 million from EUR 222 million in the prior-year quarter. OMV cited weaker market prices and a lower contribution from Borouge International, although its base-chemicals business benefited from stronger olefin margins.

OMV's results release said Fuels and Energy were the main earnings drivers. Chief Executive Emma Delaney also pointed to safe, reliable operations and disciplined project execution amid geopolitical challenges.

Higher assumptions, higher execution demands

OMV now expects organic capital expenditure of around EUR 3.5 billion in 2026, compared with a previous forecast of around EUR 3.4 billion. The group raised its average Brent assumption to above USD 95 per barrel from a previous range of USD 85 to USD 95, and lifted its expected average realized gas price to around EUR 45 per megawatt-hour from around EUR 40.

The company also raised its European refining indicator-margin assumption to around USD 25 per barrel from around USD 20. Full-year hydrocarbon production is expected at around 290 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day, subject to geopolitical developments, while European refinery utilization is projected to remain above 90 percent.

Investing.com reported that the clean CCS Operating Result came in below a Vara consensus of EUR 2.17 billion, despite the strong year-on-year increase. That contrast leaves the share sensitive to the durability of refining margins, commodity prices and the recovery path for Chemicals.
