- Ormat secured two 15-year Israeli storage agreements after an Israeli Electricity Authority tender.
- The projects are planned for commercial operation in 2028 and still require interconnection and land-use approvals.
- The contracts support Ormat's broader shift toward a more stable and profitable storage portfolio.
Ormat Technologies is expanding its energy-storage platform through two long-term agreements in Israel. The company announced the award on February 13, 2025, after a tender by the Israeli Electricity Authority.
In the release, Ormat Technologies said the two facilities would have combined planned capacity of approximately 300 megawatts and 1,200 megawatt-hours. Each agreement runs for 15 years, while commercial operation is expected during 2028.
Contract structure broadens options
Ormat is developing the projects with Allied Infrastructure Ltd. Ownership is split equally between the partners, and the projects represent the partnership's first major entry into Israel's utility-scale storage market.
The agreements are designed to add contracted revenue and greater stability to Ormat's storage portfolio. They also include an option to terminate the initial tolling structure and move into the merchant market, giving the partners an alternative commercial route.
Construction remains subject to interconnection approvals and land-use permits. For investors, the projects are therefore a longer-dated growth initiative rather than an immediate earnings contributor.
Storage remains a strategic focus
Ormat is using its geothermal and recovered-energy expertise while building a larger energy-storage business. The Israeli projects add contracted capacity to that strategy, but their contribution depends on permitting, construction and the planned 2028 operating timetable.
