Prosus is sharpening its India strategy by adding a consumer-facing fintech platform to its portfolio. In an interview with Mint reported by TradingView on Tuesday, November 3, Prosus India head Ashutosh Sharma said the technology investor wants to expand into platform- and marketplace-led businesses across financial services and consumer markets.
India strategy turns more consumer-facing
Prosus recently invested 100 million US dollars in Navi, the fintech group founded by Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal. The Competition Commission of India approved the transaction last week, covering an 8.5 percent stake. The investment is entirely primary and values Navi at more than 13,000 crore rupees.
Sharma said the deal addresses a gap in Prosus's portfolio. PayU is focused largely on business-to-business payments and credit, while Navi combines UPI payments, lending, insurance and broking in a single consumer platform.
Platform model guides capital allocation
Prosus favors businesses with several connected services rather than companies built around a single product. Its portfolio also includes platform businesses such as Swiggy, Meesho, Rapido, Urban Company and Ixigo.
Navi's operating revenue rose 16.2 percent year on year to 2,981.7 crore rupees in the financial year ended March 31, 2026, while its consolidated net loss widened to 466 crore rupees from 126.4 crore rupees. Navi Finserv's assets under management reached 13,138 crore rupees in fiscal 2026 and exceeded 23,440 crore rupees by the middle of this year.
Prosus is prepared to hold concentrated positions for extended periods. Sharma said Rapido, Vastu Finance, PayU and Navi are among the late-stage holdings that could potentially access public markets, although the timing will be decided by the individual companies.
