Rheinmetall received a new defence order on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the European Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation, OCCAR, commissioned 69 additional Schakal wheeled infantry fighting vehicles for Germany and the Netherlands. Rheinmetall described the order in its press release.

The order covers 35 vehicles for the Bundeswehr and 34 for the Royal Netherlands Land Forces. Artec GmbH, a joint venture between Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland, is the prime contractor for the Boxer platform. Rheinmetall said its share of the two option call-offs is in the medium three-digit million-euro range.

Schakal programme gains further scale

The latest call-off raises the number of Schakal vehicles scheduled for delivery to 291. The main contract awarded in October 2025 covered 222 vehicles and included options for up to 200 more. Germany's Bundestag Budget Committee approved the first call-off of the options on June 24, 2026.

Deliveries of the newly ordered vehicles are planned between May 2032 and November 2033. The Schakal combines the Boxer wheeled armoured vehicle chassis with the turret of the tracked Puma infantry fighting vehicle. Its weapons include Rheinmetall's MK 30-2/ABM cannon and the MELLS anti-tank guided missile.

Rheinmetall Vehicle Systems division head Dr Bjorn Bernhard said the activation of additional options confirms customer confidence in the system. He added that the order improves planning certainty for the company and its suppliers while strengthening European industrial capacity. The programme also supports production at German sites operated by Rheinmetall, KNDS Deutschland, MTU, Hensoldt and other suppliers.
