Rivian Automotive beat third-quarter expectations as the R2 ramp lifted deliveries and software revenue. CNBC reported on Thursday, October 29, 2026, that the electric vehicle maker posted adjusted earnings of minus 48 cents per share against an expected loss of 62 cents and revenue of 2.16 billion US dollars against 1.99 billion US dollars expected.

R2 becomes Rivian's volume leader

Rivian delivered a record 19,248 vehicles from July through September, a 46 percent increase from a year earlier. The company said the R2 became its best-selling vehicle by volume in the quarter, although it does not disclose deliveries by model.

Consolidated gross profit reached 176 million US dollars, compared with 24 million US dollars a year earlier. The net loss attributable to common stockholders narrowed to 913 million US dollars from 1.17 billion US dollars, while the adjusted EBITDA loss improved to 435 million US dollars.

Software and services contributed 605 million US dollars in revenue and 256 million US dollars in gross profit, representing a 42 percent margin. Automotive revenue was 1.55 billion US dollars, while the automotive segment posted an 80 million US dollar gross loss.

Company raises full-year targets

Rivian lifted its 2026 delivery outlook to 67,000 to 70,000 vehicles from 65,000 to 70,000 previously. The company now expects an adjusted EBITDA loss of 1.75 billion to 1.85 billion US dollars and capital expenditure of 1.4 billion to 1.5 billion US dollars. Management attributed the improved outlook to regulatory-credit revenue, an IEEPA tariff refund receivable and higher expected deliveries.

Rivian reiterated that the R2 should reach positive gross margin by year-end. Chief Executive RJ Scaringe said the company expects the R2 to account for most deliveries in the fourth quarter, making the production ramp a key test for the path toward profitability.
