Rogers Communications reported its third-quarter results on October 23, covering the three months ended September 30. In its third-quarter results release, the company said total revenue rose 2 percent to 5.443 billion Canadian dollars, while total service revenue increased 1 percent to 4.780 billion Canadian dollars.

Free cash flow was the strongest financial feature of the quarter. Rogers generated 1.370 billion Canadian dollars, up from 829 million Canadian dollars a year earlier, as capital expenditures fell 46 percent to 524 million Canadian dollars. Adjusted EBITDA increased 1 percent to 2.535 billion Canadian dollars.

Telecom growth remains selective

Wireless service revenue declined 1 percent as lower mobile phone average revenue per user and reduced fee revenue offset customer additions. Postpaid mobile phone net additions fell to 6,000, while total mobile phone net additions reached 17,000. Retail Internet net additions were 10,000.

Management linked the weaker subscriber additions to promotional discipline and lower market activity in Canada. The company continued to emphasize margins and premium plans rather than volume-led discounting. Wireless adjusted EBITDA margin reached 68 percent, while Cable adjusted EBITDA margin was 59 percent.

MLSE adds strategic weight

Rogers completed the acquisition of the remaining 25 percent interest in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment on October 1 for 4.35 billion Canadian dollars. MLSE is now wholly owned by Rogers. The company said it is pursuing a minority investment in its consolidated sports, media, and entertainment assets, with proceeds intended to support debt repayment and balance-sheet improvement.

Media revenue increased 9 percent to 821 million Canadian dollars, helped by sports activity and higher subscriber revenue from Warner Bros. Discovery channels. Rogers reaffirmed its 2026 outlook for total service revenue growth, adjusted EBITDA growth, capital expenditures, and free cash flow.
