- Royal Bank of Canada is blocking personal AI agents from authenticated digital banking services.
- Customers can continue using RBC's website, mobile app and proprietary digital tools.
- The decision reflects concerns about security, privacy, fraud, consumer harm and liability.
Royal Bank of Canada said on October 28 that it would block third-party personal AI agents from direct access to authenticated RBC digital properties, including online banking. The bank's customer notice was published by RBC Thought Leadership.
RBC cited the growing autonomy of these tools and the risks that could arise if an agent misunderstood an instruction or malfunctioned. The bank said those risks could include fraud, consumer harm and broader financial-system effects.
Why RBC tightened access
The restriction covers outside agents that try to reach authenticated RBC services on a customer's behalf, including tools such as Meta's Muse. RBC said personal AI agents may need access to online accounts and may store passwords to perform tasks.
The policy does not close RBC's own digital channels. Customers can continue to access digital banking through the official website and mobile app, use RBC's digital tools and features, or contact customer service. That distinction keeps the bank's existing digital offering available while limiting external software operating through authenticated sessions.
Royal Bank of Canada stock traded at 183.83 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 14:36 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Investors can follow the real-time quote of Royal Bank of Canada stock.
For investors, the move places authorization, privacy and operational responsibility ahead of unrestricted third-party automation. It also leaves RBC's broader use of internally controlled digital tools intact, making the decision a risk-control measure rather than a retreat from digital banking.
