Saab reported a strong third quarter on October 23, with order bookings, sales and profitability all well above the year-earlier period. The Swedish defense company said the figures reflected growing customer demand and major contracts for Gripen E, GlobalEye and systems for German frigates, according to its Q3 results release.
Orders Set A New Quarterly High
Order bookings reached SEK 65.825 billion in the July-to-September period, compared with SEK 20.861 billion a year earlier. The total included a SEK 24.6 billion order for 16 Gripen E fighters for Ukraine, a SEK 10.1 billion GlobalEye order for an undisclosed customer and SEK 8.7 billion for systems for Germany's new frigates.
Large orders accounted for SEK 52.12 billion, compared with SEK 8.321 billion in the same quarter of 2025. Saab's book-to-bill ratio was 3.2, underscoring the scale of new commitments relative to quarterly sales.
Profit Growth Followed Higher Sales
Sales rose to SEK 20.553 billion from SEK 15.871 billion, corresponding to organic growth of 30.6 percent. EBITDA increased to SEK 2.833 billion, while the EBITDA margin was 13.8 percent versus 13.7 percent a year earlier.
EBIT advanced 42 percent to SEK 1.945 billion from SEK 1.374 billion. The EBIT margin widened to 9.5 percent from 8.7 percent, and net income increased to SEK 1.432 billion from SEK 975 million. Operational cash flow rose to SEK 6.785 billion from SEK 142 million.
Backlog Supports Future Deliveries
The order backlog stood at SEK 364.223 billion at September 30, up from SEK 274.532 billion at the beginning of the year. International markets accounted for 79 percent of the backlog, giving Saab substantial exposure to defense spending outside Sweden.
Management said the company would continue investing in capacity and future capabilities. The backlog provides visibility for deliveries across the coming periods, but execution, production expansion and supplier capacity remain important factors for converting orders into sales and earnings.
