Naval News reported on Wednesday, November 4, that the French defense group had been selected for three programs using its hemispherical resonator gyroscope technology.
Three platforms strengthen defense exposure
The programs cover navigation systems for France's third-generation ballistic-missile submarines, the M51 missile and Rafale fighter aircraft. Safran said the submarine system is designed to support long periods of autonomous navigation without satellite recalibration, while the M51.4 unit will use HRG Dual Core technology in a more compact package.
The announcement adds a defense milestone to Safran's aerospace portfolio. The company is also expanding its inertial-sensor industrial base in France, where production is planned to rise from 10,000 HRGs per year to 30,000 by 2032.
