Samsung Electronics is expanding long-term memory supply agreements as customers seek to secure chips for the next several years, Korea JoongAng Daily reported on Monday, November 2, 2026. The agreements respond to tight memory markets driven by artificial intelligence infrastructure spending.

Long-term contracts broaden customer base

Samsung said during its third-quarter earnings conference call on October 29 that it had signed long-term contracts with 10 customers and was negotiating with another 10. Demand is spreading beyond AI companies to mobile, automotive and networking customers.

The company said these agreements can support a more stable, contract-based business model. Samsung is moving toward a goal of allocating 60 to 70 percent of total production capacity to long-term contracts by 2030, according to the report.

Supply remains tight, risks remain

Samsung has also received requests for additional supplies during existing contract periods and is reviewing its medium- to long-term production capabilities. With capacity already stretched, the company is considering how to meet additional demand without committing too quickly to expansion.

The market outlook is not without risks. New factories could lift DRAM supply significantly around 2028, while major technology companies face higher costs from AI investment and Chinese chipmakers are expanding capacity. Samsung plans to secure factory space first and install equipment in line with demand.

Samsung said higher capital spending in 2027 may not translate directly into higher chip output in 2028 because construction, equipment procurement and next-generation HBM manufacturing take time. For investors, the long-term agreements could improve revenue visibility, but the balance between secured demand, pricing and future capacity will remain important.
