Schneider Electric's energy chief says flexible demand can ease data-center grid pressure. The interview puts efficiency and simulation at the center of AI infrastructure planning.

AI Infrastructure Needs Flexible Power

  • Schneider Electric's energy chief said data centers must manage both total electricity supply and local peak demand.
  • Efficiency and flexible load shifting can ease grid pressure while new power capacity is built.
  • Integrated simulation of computing, power and cooling systems is becoming central to faster data-center deployment.

Schneider Electric's energy management chief Frédéric Godemel said on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, that data-center operators must manage both electricity supply and peak demand as artificial intelligence drives higher power consumption. In an interview with Bloomberg at Bloomberg Tech 2026 in London, Godemel argued that flexibility and digital control can help bridge the gap while new generation and grid capacity are developed.

The Bloomberg interview carried by Yahoo Finance focused on the distinction between overall energy availability and local peaks. Godemel said a data center concentrates a large electrical load at a specific location, making grid capacity and the timing of demand equally important.

Flexibility Can Reduce Grid Pressure

Godemel identified energy efficiency as the first way to reduce peaks. The second is shifting demand to other periods through digital systems. He said artificial intelligence can help manage those fluctuations across homes, buildings and other flexible loads, while data centers themselves can become more active participants in the grid.

His comments reinforce Schneider Electric's positioning in energy management, automation and digital infrastructure. The investment relevance lies in the potential demand for equipment and software that helps customers connect power, cooling and computing systems. The interview did not provide a new revenue forecast or a new company target.

Godemel also urged data-center developers to simulate systems before operation. He said site power availability should be assessed first, followed by an integrated view of computing, power and cooling. Simulation can shorten implementation timelines and allow operators to test efficiency before the site is running.
