- ServiceNow is cutting jobs across the United States, the United Kingdom and India while investing in artificial intelligence roles.
- Severance and related costs reached 167 million US dollars in the first nine months of 2026, up from 53 million US dollars a year earlier.
- Management expects the restructuring program to be substantially completed during 2026 while targeting year-end headcount in line with the start of the year.
ServiceNow is conducting another round of layoffs affecting employees in the United States, the United Kingdom and India as the enterprise software company reallocates resources toward artificial intelligence and operational efficiency. People Matters reported the move on Friday, November 6, citing CTech and quoting ServiceNow on the structural changes.
The company has not disclosed how many positions are being eliminated. ServiceNow said it is investing in AI-focused skills while managing headcount with the aim of ending 2026 at roughly the level at which the year began. The restructuring therefore points to a shift in workforce composition rather than a publicly announced reduction target for total employees.
Severance Costs Move Higher
People Matters reported that ServiceNow's employee severance and related costs reached 87 million US dollars in the third quarter of 2026, compared with 24 million US dollars a year earlier. For the first nine months, the costs rose to 167 million US dollars from 53 million US dollars.
Cash payments related to severance totaled 153 million US dollars during the first nine months, while severance-related reserves stood at 34 million US dollars as of September 30. The company expects the program to be substantially completed during 2026. Termination costs are recognized when employees receive notification, so costs linked to the latest round would normally appear in fourth-quarter results.
AI Changes Workforce Priorities
ServiceNow has linked the slower pace of hiring to productivity gains from AI. The company has said those efficiencies generate more than 1 billion US dollars in annualized gains. Chief Executive Bill McDermott described a smaller workforce during the third-quarter earnings call as a favorable development, while Chief Financial Officer Gina Mastantuono said sales operations headcount was down significantly and the number of quota-carrying salespeople had increased by double digits.
For investors, the restructuring creates a two-sided test. Lower staffing growth and automation gains could support efficiency if ServiceNow converts AI adoption into higher productivity. At the same time, elevated severance costs show that the transition is creating near-term expenses, while the undisclosed number of affected roles leaves the operational impact difficult to quantify.
