- The Tia Maria project was nearly half complete at the end of September and is expected to produce 120,000 tonnes of copper annually in its early years.
- Lower mined copper output and higher capital spending remain important factors for investors as the company expands its project pipeline.
Southern Copper Corporation reaches an important shareholder-return date on Tuesday, November 3, after its board approved a quarterly cash dividend and a stock dividend. The company also enters the date with record third-quarter financial results, giving investors both a scheduled distribution and strong recent operating figures to assess.
Southern Copper stock traded at 155.68 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 13:58 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026; investors can follow the real-time quote of Southern Copper Corporation stock.
Record results support shareholder returns
Southern Copper authorized the distribution on October 15, according to the company's third-quarter release carried by MarketScreener. The cash component amounts to 1.30 US dollars per common share. Southern Copper is also distributing 0.0106 common shares per common share, with cash paid in place of fractional shares based on a share price of 197.83 US dollars.
The November 3 record date determines eligibility, while the payment date is November 19, 2026. The timing gives the distribution a clear near-term calendar relevance, although the stock dividend and cash payment are corporate actions rather than a change to the company's operating outlook.
Metal prices lift quarterly earnings
For the quarter ended September 30, Southern Copper reported net sales of 4,696.6 million US dollars, a 39.1 percent increase from the prior-year quarter and a new quarterly record. Net income reached 1,801.8 million US dollars, up 62.7 percent, while adjusted EBITDA rose 53.9 percent to 3,040.2 million US dollars. The company said higher prices for its metals drove the improvement, while copper, molybdenum and silver sales volumes declined.
Adjusted EBITDA margin increased to 64.7 percent from 58.5 percent a year earlier. Operating cash flow reached 2,224.3 million US dollars in the quarter, up 42.6 percent. The strong cash generation supports the distribution, but the earnings mix also highlights Southern Copper's exposure to metal prices.
Projects add long-term growth options
Management said the Tia Maria project in Peru was 49.6 percent complete at September 30. The project is expected to begin operations in the first half of 2028 and produce 120,000 tonnes of copper per year in its early years. Southern Copper had invested 884.3 million US dollars in the project and committed a further 1,101 million US dollars for activities, acquisitions and contracts by that date.
The company expects Tia Maria and El Pilar together to add approximately 156,000 tonnes of refined copper to annual production. El Pilar, in Mexico, is scheduled to begin production in the second half of 2029, with a capital budget of 551 million US dollars. These projects offer a longer-term production path, while their construction spending increases the demands on execution and capital allocation.
Nine-month mined copper production fell 2.9 percent to 693,602 tonnes. Southern Copper reported that by-product revenue credits helped reduce its operating cash cost, net of those credits, to 0.01 US dollars per pound from 0.61 US dollars a year earlier. That comparison is especially sensitive to metal prices and by-product contributions.
US equities set the broader backdrop for Southern Copper stock through the S&P 500.
For investors, the next fixed event is the November 19 payment date. The company will remain exposed to copper and other metal prices while it advances Tia Maria, El Pilar and its wider project pipeline. More news and analyses on Southern Copper Corporation stock.
