- SpaceX completed a full-duration firing of all six Ship 42 Raptor engines on October 28.
- A separate single-engine firing simulated a deorbit burn for the upcoming mission.
- Starship Flight 15 is targeted for November, subject to final launch preparations and regulatory approval.
SpaceX completed a major propulsion milestone for Starship Flight 15 on October 28, 2026, when Ship 42 finished its static-fire campaign. The upper stage carried out a full-duration firing of all six Raptor engines and a separate single-engine firing to simulate a deorbit burn, according to Space.com.
Engine Tests Advance Flight Preparations
Ship 42 is the Starship upper stage assigned to Flight 15. The tests were conducted while the vehicle remained secured to the ground, allowing SpaceX to check the propulsion system before a flight attempt. The single-engine firing rehearsed a maneuver intended to push the spacecraft out of orbit for its return toward Earth.
The upper-stage tests followed a full-duration static fire of all 33 engines on Super Heavy Booster 22 on October 25, according to the same report. Together, the two campaigns cover the main propulsion systems planned for the next Starship test flight.
Space.com reported that SpaceX founder and Chief Executive Elon Musk had targeted Flight 15 for sometime in November. The company still faces final launch preparations and regulatory requirements, so the test milestone does not establish a firm launch date.
SpaceX stock traded at 123.69 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 12:00 CET on Friday, October 30, 2026. Investors are likely to focus on whether the completed ground tests translate into a flight schedule and whether Starship can demonstrate more reliable operations as SpaceX expands its launch ambitions.
