STMicroelectronics stock weighs AI growth against margin risks

Published on 11/02/2026 at 10:27 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWS
STMicroelectronics stock enters November with stronger AI and satellite demand supporting its recovery. Factory reshaping remains a key margin test.

AI demand meets manufacturing constraints

  • Third-quarter revenue reached USD 3.76 billion, while industrial sales rose 40 percent year over year.
  • Management targets USD 1.3 billion in AI data-center revenue for 2026 and more than USD 2 billion in 2027.
  • Factory reshaping could add more than 400 basis points to structural gross margin, but benefits are expected mainly from late 2027 or early 2028.

STMicroelectronics' latest earnings-call review points to a broader semiconductor recovery led by AI data centers, satellite communications and industrial automation. The company reported third-quarter revenue of USD 3.76 billion and raised expectations for the current quarter, while manufacturing transitions and weak consumer demand remain constraints.

In a review published by The Globe and Mail, management said third-quarter revenue exceeded the midpoint of its outlook. Gross margin reached 37.3 percent, while non-US GAAP diluted earnings per share came to USD 0.37. Net income rose to USD 291 million from USD 237 million a year earlier.

Industrial recovery broadens demand

Industrial revenue increased 40 percent year over year and 12 percent sequentially, supported by microcontrollers, analog products and power-conversion components. Communication Equipment and Computer Peripheral revenue advanced 64 percent year over year and 14 percent sequentially, driven by AI data-center and low Earth orbit satellite demand.

Automotive revenue was flat sequentially but grew 5 percent from a year earlier. STMicroelectronics also highlighted design wins covering hybrid, electric and combustion vehicles, including onboard chargers, powertrains, active suspension and a first 48-volt electromechanical braking award. Personal Electronics improved sequentially but remained 4 percent below the prior-year quarter.

Guidance raises the execution bar

Management expects fourth-quarter revenue of USD 4.15 billion at the midpoint, which would represent 10.5 percent sequential growth and 24.7 percent year-over-year growth. The outlook implies full-year 2026 revenue of about USD 14.5 billion and a full-year gross margin of about 36.4 percent.

AI data-center revenue is expected to reach about USD 1.3 billion in 2026 and more than USD 2 billion in 2027. STMicroelectronics also plans to expand silicon photonics capacity by more than four times year over year. The company expects low Earth orbit satellite demand to remain at or above this year's record level, with manufacturing capacity rather than orders limiting growth.

The main profitability test is the manufacturing reshaping program. Management expects more than 400 basis points of structural gross-margin improvement, but described the benefit as a step change toward late 2027 or early 2028. The plan involves closing legacy fabs and moving production to newer facilities, creating near-term transition costs. A 2027 cost-savings program is expected to deliver USD 100 million to USD 120 million in benefits.

STMicroelectronics stock traded at 42.13 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 10:17 CET on Monday, November 2, 2026. Investors can follow the real-time quote of STMicroelectronics stock.

Cash generation also strengthened: operating cash flow reached USD 1.02 billion, compared with USD 549 million a year earlier, while free cash flow increased to USD 351 million from USD 130 million. The figures give STMicroelectronics room to fund capacity expansion and shareholder returns, although execution in older fabs and Power & Discrete remains central to the investment case.

Broader semiconductor sentiment can be followed in current market reports.
