- Takeda's first-half revenue rose on an actual-exchange-rate basis, while constant-currency revenue declined.
- ORZEYFUL launched in Japan and China, while MIMRYLO became available in the United States.
- Zasocitinib moved into priority review in the United States and review in Europe.
- Management plans to outline its longer-term growth strategy in Tokyo in December.
Takeda's first-half results add a new angle to the company's launch-driven growth plan. In its release dated Thursday, October 29, Takeda said reported operating profit rose 60.4 percent in the six months ended September 30, 2026. The company attributed the increase in part to the end of the amortization period for VYVANSE intangible assets and lower impairment charges.
Reported profit masks mixed trends
Revenue increased 8.4 percent on an actual-exchange-rate basis to 2,407.0 billion yen, while revenue declined 1.0 percent at constant exchange rates. Core operating profit, Takeda's non-IFRS measure, rose 11.2 percent on an actual-exchange-rate basis to 710.6 billion yen and 0.7 percent at constant exchange rates.
Adjusted free cash flow reached 325.7 billion yen, compared with 525.4 billion yen in the prior-year period. Takeda raised its FY2026 forecast mainly because of foreign-exchange benefits, lifting revenue guidance to 4,700.0 billion yen from 4,640.0 billion yen and core operating profit guidance to 1,190.0 billion yen from 1,160.0 billion yen.
The figures and management commentary come from Takeda's October 29 release. The distinction between reported and core figures remains important for investors because the reported improvement includes accounting effects, while the constant-currency trend points to continuing pressure on the underlying top line.
New medicines set the next test
ORZEYFUL was approved in the United States, Japan and China for narcolepsy type 1 and became available in Japan and China on October 15. Its U.S. launch remains subject to Drug Enforcement Administration scheduling and is expected in early November. MIMRYLO launched in the United States in August for erythrocytosis in adults with polycythemia vera.
Zasocitinib has moved into priority review with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, while the European Medicines Agency is reviewing the application. Takeda also said Phase 3 data supported further development of arcotatug tavatecan in advanced gastric cancer.
