- Uber reported record platform activity while Mobility revenue declined.
- Adjusted profitability expanded, but investment revaluation effects weighed on GAAP income.
- Fourth-quarter guidance keeps bookings growth and autonomous deployment in focus.
Uber Technologies reported strong third-quarter platform growth on Wednesday, November 4, while lower GAAP income and weaker Mobility revenue complicated the earnings picture. The company said in its third-quarter results release that Gross Bookings rose 20 percent year over year to 59.819 billion US dollars.
Bookings Rise Across The Platform
Trips increased 16 percent to 4.061 billion, while Monthly Active Platform Consumers rose 14 percent to 215 million. Gross Bookings climbed 18 percent in Mobility, 22 percent in Delivery and 35 percent in Freight.
The segment mix remained uneven. Mobility revenue fell 2 percent to 7.520 billion US dollars, whereas Delivery revenue increased 23 percent and Freight revenue gained 34 percent. The figures show that transaction growth is broad, but revenue conversion differs materially between businesses.
Adjusted Profit Outpaces GAAP Income
Adjusted EBITDA rose 31 percent to 2.963 billion US dollars, and Non-GAAP Operating Income increased 38 percent to 2.304 billion US dollars. Non-GAAP earnings per share reached 0.88 US dollars, up 35 percent year over year.
GAAP net income attributable to Uber fell to 512 million US dollars from 6.626 billion US dollars in the prior-year quarter. The comparison was distorted by a 4.9 billion US dollar tax valuation benefit and a 1.5 billion US dollar investment revaluation gain in the earlier period. Uber recorded a 476 million US dollar pretax investment revaluation loss in the latest quarter.
Fourth-Quarter Scale Remains Key
Uber expects fourth-quarter Gross Bookings of 63.25 billion to 65.25 billion US dollars, with constant-currency growth of 18 percent to 22 percent. The company forecasts Non-GAAP earnings per share of 0.95 to 0.99 US dollars and Adjusted EBITDA of 3.13 billion to 3.23 billion US dollars.
Management also expects approximately 700 fully driverless vehicles on the platform by year-end and more than 2,000 in 2027. For investors, the next checkpoints are delivery of the bookings range, Mobility supply conditions and the conversion of platform growth into recurring profit.
