- UCB and Cradle announced a strategic collaboration covering selected antibody discovery projects.
- The work runs from active-molecule identification through lead optimization and preclinical preparation.
- Experimental results will feed program-specific models in a lab-in-the-loop process.
- Investors will need clinical and commercial milestones before the agreement can affect earnings expectations.
UCB and Cradle announced a strategic collaboration on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, to use artificial intelligence in antibody design and engineering. The agreement adds a new research angle for UCB as investors assess the Belgian biopharmaceutical group's commercial momentum and development pipeline.
AI enters the discovery workflow
UCB will use Cradle's AI-based protein design platform in selected research projects. The planned work covers the early development chain, from identifying active molecules to optimizing lead candidates and preparing them for preclinical development.
The collaboration is built around a recurring exchange between predictive models and laboratory experiments. Results from UCB's experiments will feed program-specific models, creating a lab-in-the-loop process intended to help researchers assess and improve candidates more quickly while keeping laboratory validation central.
Long-term upside still depends on execution
UCB Chief Scientific Officer Alistair Henry said the company views AI as a force multiplier for scientific expertise rather than an end in itself. Cradle Chief Executive and co-founder Stef van Grieken said the platform is intended to support broader use across programs, modalities and complex engineering challenges.
The announcement identifies no clinical candidate, development milestone or commercial revenue contribution. Any financial effect therefore depends on whether the collaboration produces viable drug candidates and advances them through later development stages. UCB's next scheduled full-year results and formal 2027 guidance are due on February 25, 2027.
