Umicore stock: Hoboken green zone follows 186 home acquisitions

Umicore inaugurated the Zilverbos green zone and a connecting road beside its Hoboken site on October 27, according to the official Umicore release. The company said 186 homes were acquired to create the zone, while four homes were retained and integrated into the new surroundings.

Environmental project has operating relevance

The five-hectare green zone contains around 11,000 native trees and shrubs and creates more distance between the industrial site and the Moretusburg residential neighborhood. Umicore said the project forms part of broader environmental improvements aimed at further reducing exposure to lead and other metals, with twice-yearly blood-lead measurements among the factors behind its development.

Umicore has invested approximately 125 million euros in the green zone and road project since 2020. The approximately two-kilometer road uses 3.7 hectares of company land and is expected to open to traffic on November 16, 2026. A four-meter-wide segregated two-way cycle path is planned alongside it.

Investor context remains operational

The Hoboken site recycles hundreds of thousands of tonnes of complex recyclable materials each year and recovers 17 valuable metals, including gold, silver, platinum, palladium and rhodium, according to the company. The latest announcement is therefore a site-level environmental and traffic milestone rather than a new earnings forecast or contract disclosure.

At Lang & Schwarz, Umicore was quoted at 18.67 euros on October 29, 2026, at 16:14:28 Berlin time. The quote was 0.86 percent above the previous close of 18.51 euros. The move is reported as market context and is not attributed to the Hoboken announcement.
