- Third-quarter net profit rose sharply from a low prior-year base but missed analyst expectations.
- Record fee income from wealth, cards and loan-related activities supported the quarter.
- Higher funding costs are putting pressure on margins and shaping the 2027 outlook.
United Overseas Bank reported third-quarter net profit of S$1.25 billion for the period ended September 30, 2026, according to The Straits Times. Profit more than doubled from the year-earlier period, when heavy credit provisions created a low comparison base, but the result fell short of analyst expectations.
Fees Cushion A Mixed Quarter
UOB's net fee income reached a record S$733 million, supported by wealth management, card and loan-related activity. Customer-related treasury income also reached a new high, highlighting continued demand for hedging solutions and broader client activity.
Credit and other loss provisions fell sharply from the prior-year level to S$258 million. That reduction materially supported the year-on-year profit increase, making the headline growth rate less representative of underlying operating momentum.
Margin Pressure Shapes Outlook
Net interest income increased modestly to S$2.28 billion, while the net interest margin narrowed to 1.68 percent as funding costs rose. Management expects mid-single-digit loan growth in 2027, with net interest income above the 2026 level and fee income growth in the mid- to high-single-digit range.
UOB stock traded at 26.86 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 15:33 CET on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, 6.87 percent below the 28.84-euro quote in the October 27 report. Investors can follow the real-time quote of UOB stock.
