- Jodi Richard is set to become American Express' chief risk officer on January 25, 2027.
- Troy Remington will combine interim enterprise risk oversight with his chief credit officer responsibilities.
- U.S. Bancorp has not set a timetable for appointing a permanent risk chief.
U.S. Bancorp's senior risk function is entering a succession process after Jodi L. Richard resigned as vice chair and chief risk officer effective immediately on October 23, 2026. Banking Dive reports that Richard will become chief risk officer of American Express and its national bank on January 25, 2027.
Richard's next role sets a date
Richard notified U.S. Bancorp of her departure on October 23. The bank said the resignation was not related to a disagreement over its operations, policies or practices. At American Express, she will also lead the global risk and compliance team and join the executive committee.
Richard had been with U.S. Bancorp since 2014 and became chief risk officer in 2018, according to Banking Dive. Her move gives investors a clearer view of the transition's destination, but it leaves U.S. Bancorp searching for a permanent leader of enterprise risk.
Interim oversight combines two roles
Troy W. Remington, an executive vice president and chief credit officer, is serving as interim chief risk officer while U.S. Bancorp conducts its search. Remington has been with the bank for more than 21 years and became chief credit officer in 2021, Banking Dive reports.
That arrangement keeps credit and broader risk oversight under one interim leader. The company's filing did not provide a timetable for naming a permanent successor, leaving the duration of the dual assignment open.
