Valero Energy reported a sharp rebound in third-quarter earnings for the period ended September 30, 2026, as refining profitability strengthened and its renewable-fuel businesses returned better results. The company said its St. Charles FCC Unit optimization project was completed on schedule and within budget.

Valero Energy stock traded at 341.45 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 17:03 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. That compares with 349.85 euros in the previous report published on October 29, a decline of 2.40 percent.

Refining remains the earnings engine

In its October 22 earnings release, Valero reported net income attributable to stockholders of 6.8 billion US dollars, or 23.89 US dollars per diluted share, compared with 1.1 billion US dollars, or 3.53 US dollars, a year earlier. Adjusted earnings were 23.90 US dollars per share, versus 3.66 US dollars in the prior-year quarter.

Refining operating income climbed to 8.8 billion US dollars from 1.6 billion US dollars. Throughput averaged 2.972 million barrels per day, below 3.087 million barrels per day a year earlier, while the refining margin per barrel rose to 39.24 US dollars from 13.14 US dollars.

Renewables add operating support

Renewable Diesel generated 353 million US dollars of operating income, reversing a 28 million US dollar loss in the third quarter of 2025. Ethanol operating income increased to 272 million US dollars from 183 million US dollars, and production volumes reached a quarterly record of 4.8 million gallons per day.

The St. Charles project increases capacity for higher-value products including alkylate and gasoline. Valero also generated 6.9 billion US dollars in operating cash flow and ended the quarter with 9.8 billion US dollars of cash and cash equivalents. The company said stockholder cash returns represented 52 percent of adjusted operating cash flow.

For investors, the results underline the earnings leverage of Valero's refining system to fuel margins, while renewable diesel and ethanol provide additional operating contributions. The lower throughput figure and exposure to commodity margins remain important factors for the next reporting periods.
